Mangalorean News : Obituary: Stella DíSouza (69), Vamanjoor, Mangalore

Stella DíSouza (69), wife of the late Joseph Francis DíSouza, mother of Sonia / Ronald Monteiro, grandmother of Ken, passed away on April Monday 6, 2009.

Mortal remains will be brought to St Joseph the Worker Church, Vamanjoor, Mangalore for Public Homage at 3.45 p.m. on Tuesday April 7. Mass & Final Rites will be held at 4.00 p.m.

Local News : Mangalorean Friendship Series Initiative - Badminton

Mangalorean Friendship Series Initiative (MFSI) has announced a Spring Session Badminton, its third sports event for the year in its tenure of seven months, since it commenced catering to the sporting inclinations of the community on 5th October 2008. The community has responded enthusiastically with numerous suggestions and offers to volunteer for future events.

This time MFSI is organizing the first Badminton Doubles Tournament in all categories. Men's, women's and mixed doubles are on the cards. While the tournament is open to all, Mangalorean representation is required in each team. And from the interest and enthusiasm generated from the announcements, one can expect a door crashing response.

Three courts will be in simultaneous play at the Clarkson Community Center on Saturday the 2nd May 2009. Registration will commence at 12 noon till 12.45. The tournament will start at 1 pm until 5 pm. The organizers have announced that all teams registering by the deadline will try to be accommodated and the tournament formatted accordingly.

MFSI wishes the community a competitive and energetic spring session of play.

Local News : Ontario Junior Citizen Award - Caroline D'Souza

Caroline D'Souza, 12, daughter of Kevin D'Souza (of Belgaum origin) and Lovina nee Rodricks (of Bappalige-Puttur origin) has been chosen to receive "2008 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Award". She is one among the twelve recipients for 2008. The award is given in recognition of outstanding contribution to the community.
