on 2007/6/26 22:50:00 (928 reads)

Born August 4, 1945 to a family of 13 children in Belle (St. Lawrence Parish) in Udupi district, His Grace, Most Rev. Albert DíSouza is single minded in his evangelical mission Ė share faith through Truth, Love and Peace. In a family of 9 boys and 4 girls, God chose 6 siblings to be his faithful disciples to spread his word and his commandments. Of the 4 priests and 2 nuns in his family, 1 is a bishop and His Grace was appointed Archbishop of Agra on February 16, 2007. He was installed in office on April 11, 2007.

His Graceís personal vision and goal in life is to educate and provide an independent life for the underprivileged and the poor. Specifically, the Archbishop of Lucknow concentrates on the education for the blind, the deaf and the mute. He has established schools for the blind and in an innovative fashion, bought in blind brothers from Kerala to bestow learning to the blind students of the school. Understanding the reservations of the political environment of his archdiocese towards religious conversions, His Grace determined that the physically disadvantaged section of the society would benefit the most from his experience and helping hand. He has also instituted schools for the deaf and the mute instilling in the students a sense of dignity, pride and self independence.

Most Rev. Albert DíSouza visits Canada purely on a social and family mission to visit his brother, Fr. Edwin DíSouza, pastor of Sts. Martha and Mary Church, Mississauga, Canada. A special mass and felicitation ceremony will be hosted by the Mangalorean Association of Canada on July 8, 2007 at 3.30 pm at Sts. Martha and Mary Church, Mississauga.
