On a sweltering July afternoon music fans from across some provinces of Canada and neighbouring states of America gathered at the Meadowvale Theatre to witness the first ever musical nite of Melwyn Peris in Canara Kala Saanz 2010.

The musical show started bang on time with the singing of the National anthem of India and Canada by the little children. Flavian Pinto in his opening address welcomed the guests and gave a precursor of the 6 years of the musical journey of Canara World Foundation, right from its inception. He was filled with pride when he mentioned that Canara World Foundation was the only Organisation outside India and gulf countries, who had succeeded in bringing so many Mangloarean performing artists to North America. He also introduced the Anchor Host of the evening’s show Mr. Donald Alva, who ably conducted the show in a gracious manner.

A condolence meet followed by special Requiem Mass to pay tributes to the victims of the plane crash in Mangalore Bajpe Airport was held on June 05, 2010 at Sts. Martha & Mary Church, Mississauga, organized by the Mangalorean Association of Canada (MAC). A large crowd gathered to pay homage to the fellow brethren who suffered a tremendous tragedy to express their anguish and sympathize with their families left behind.

It is an awe-inspiring moment for the Mangalorean & Goan communities in Canada when their own Sarfaraz Pinto of Mangalore origin was ordained as the Deacon in a ceremony at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Toronto on May 29th 2010. Sarfaraz, along with caring for his wife and four children in Scarborough, Ontario, will now have an additional role of taking care of the parishioners in the Diocese of Toronto and supporting them with their spiritual needs. From now on, Rev.Mr.Sarfaraz will help with the sacraments of baptism, holy matrimony, funerals, as well as other services. He will read the gospel and preach but not say Mass or hear confession.

With anxious eyes scanning the Weather Network and frantic looks towards the skies trying to read between the clouds, brave Mangaloreans came in droves to attend the Annual Picnic organised by the Mangalorean Association of Canada June 19, 2010 at the Meadowvale Conservation Park, Mississauga. Despite dire predictions, the day turned out to be sunny with a slight breeze and uplifted the spirits and moods of all who attended. Children, parents, seniors and youth brought their picnic baskets, umbrellas, soccer balls and most of all, their enthusiasm and liveliness.
