Monthi Fest 2017 – Devotion to Our Lady, September 17, 2017
As September approaches, Mangaloreans prepare their minds and hearts to venerate the Blessed Virgin Mother, Mary, at her Nativity – Monthi Fest.
With nine days of Novenas dedicated to her, accompanied by a colorful flower-shower each day by little children of the community, the devotion to Our Lady culminates with the feast mass on the 8th day of September following the final, most abundant and colorful flower shower and procession with her infant image singing the timeless hymns, “Moriyek Hogolsiam” and “Sokkod Sangatham Melyam”.
As the feast also signals the Mangalorean harvest festival, this is an occasion to bless the fruits of people’s labor in the fields in obtaining the food received from His bounty. Stalks of freshly-harvested paddy are blessed and distributed to the faithful to be integrated in their traditional vegetarian fare for the day with the delectable “vorn” forming the pièce de résistance.
This year, Mangalorean Association of Canada will celebrate Monthi Fest-2017 on September 17 at Maximilian Kolbe Parish, Cawthra Road, Mississauga incorporating the final flower shower, procession and feast mass followed by a community cultural program and dinner.
Do come in large numbers and pay your respects to Our Lady. Do let your children bring flowers for her…
